Hunter- A Hunter is a human that has been given unique gifts and a mission to keep the peace of all species on earth. A Hunter’s primary mission is to hunt demons and send them back to Hell. Five Family Houses lead and train Hunters: Cross, Ryder, Okar, Diya and Wellsley.
True Alpha- A True Alpha is a wolf from the bloodline of the firstborn wolf shifter. They have abilities far past any wolf shifter. The True Alpha is over all wolves and is the leader of all Packs across the world. The True Alpha must protect and guide the wolf shifters according to the laws set by their Deity at the beginning. The True Alpha has Alpha beneath him/her to help accomplish the task and help him/her lead the wolf shifter nation so they may prosper.
Alpha/Luna- The Alpha of the Pack is the leader. He/She is the main one in control and sets the laws of his Pack. They are not required to hunt with the Pack, but most typically do. They demand respect and are in the position to exile, banish, or even kill those who do not show it. Though it is rare, this position can be challenged, and if the challenger wins the fight, the challenger, being the new Alpha, can do what he/she pleases with the previous leaders. This does not usually happen because it would result in a considerable change within the Pack.
Beta- The Beta is the second in command and enforces the law when the current Alpha is not present. If both Alpha dies, the beta(s) take the Alpha position and lead the Pack unless the Alpha has said otherwise. This position cannot be challenged without the alpha approval.
Sentinel- There are four sentinels, two mated pairs, in the Pack. The alphas and betas specially choose each pair. The Alphas and betas train the sentinels to take their places if anything should happen to them. Since becoming one can start as early as one year, the sentinels don’t usually have authority over the Pack unless the Alpha or beta have publicly given it to them. They are respected, though. Messing with a sentinel is messing with the Alphas and betas themselves. This rank cannot be challenged whatsoever.
Assassin- Assassin is the most fitting name for this rank because it is self-explanatory. They are also spies for the Pack. There can be a total of only three assassins in each Pack.
Lead Warrior/Enforcer- The lead warrior takes his/her orders directly from the Alpha and sometimes the beta. They are the main leader, general or captain of the warriors in the Pack. They are appointed by the Alpha and are the best of the best of warriors.
Pups/Cubs- I’m pretty sure that this is self-explanatory. They are the children of the Packs.
Gamma- Those holding this position are usually, if not always, the oldest and wisest of the Pack. They pass on their stories and phrases to the others within the Pack their pearls of wisdom. They delight in telling stories to pups though sometimes what they tell is just legend. Still, each story usually has some moral to it. They may have been the Alpha at one time, and usually, that is true. However, the current Alphas may put others here if it seems right. Those who hold this position are much respected and loved by the rest of the Pack.
Delta- They are the messengers of the Pack, the go-between among the allies, and sometimes even the axis. They risk their own lives by doing so, but it is their duty to make sure that those who need to know are told. Those seeking this position must be agile, patient, and even-tempered while speaking with other packs.
Zeta- They are the war general of the Pack that takes direct orders from the Alpha in case of a war. The Alpha may be the one to declare war, but the Zeta leads the army and come up with the war plans. They also train recruits for a position as an Enforcer and train younger wolves for this position to take their place in the future. Typically, there is only a single Zeta, but there can be as many as three if the populace is high or the Alpha declares it.
Gammazeta- A Gammazeta is a cross between a Zeta and Gamma. They must be born of the two wolves who carry those titles and the True Alpha bloodline. These wolves are very rare, and if you have one in your Pack, you have a wolf full of knowledge of Pack lore and the strength of an Alpha.
Kannuck- Kannuck is the Deity and creator of wolf shifters. He is also the moon god and chooses if you will be an Alpha/Luna and grants each Alpha/Luna some of his powers.
Rogue- Rogues are werewolves that have either been kicked out of their Pack or left on their own free will. Rogues are usually the wolves who have gone against Pack laws and the True Alpha.
Lone Wolf- A lone wolf acts independently or generally lives or spends time alone instead of a Pack. Usually, wolves that have left their Pack are described as lone wolves who is an individual who acts independently and prefers to do things on their own. They primarily prefer solitude or works alone. They are still part of the Pack and will come back when called by their Alpha.
Cadejo/Black dog- A Cadejo/Black Dog will cause disease, destruction, confusion, chaos, and death. It may appear as a dog but do not mistake it for what it truly is a possessed shifter. Once it has possessed a shifter, it can now walk like a human. It will no longer need to hide in the shadows of night to whisper poison from afar. It will now have a voice and a willing soul that will feed it the power of life.
My brothers and I knew things were about to change for the lives of our Pack when Quinn, the True Alpha of all wolves, came to visit us at our home. I didn’t know how he would react to my Pack being a mix of shifter species, but I hoped he takes it well. I have always taken in shifters that were in need, no matter what breed they were. I may have been bigger and older, but my wolf knew when to submit to the apex predator in our midst. The only wolf that my wolf has ever submitted to was Quinn.
“Dax, you have done an outstanding job with this Pack. This is what I like to see, and I can feel that this Pack has thrived with you as Alpha. You have cleaned house, right?” Quinn asked as he shook my hand. Before answering, I dropped to a k
nee and bared my neck to him to show proper respect, and so did my brothers, who stood behind me.
“It is an honor to have you visit my Pack,” I said. I stayed kneeling until he allowed us to stand back onto our feet. If his wolf did not find us worthy, he held the right to kill us outright and put in place another Alpha of his choosing.
“Ah, shit! Man, get the hell up. Come on, Dax. It’s still me you’re talking to,” he said, punching me on the shoulder. I smiled and stood, and my brothers followed with smirks as well.
“I mean, power goes to a man’s head at times. I didn’t want to start no bullshit with you,” I laughed. We joked around for a bit, and my brothers took the time to meet Quinn on a more personal level. They also asked him what they should do regarding the plan he was coming up with for the wolf kind. I knew for a fact two of my brothers wanted their own Pack and land but now needed the approval to start one from Quinn. I was unsure if they were ready for all that responsibility yet, but I could feel Max and Alex were close.
“Quinn can get with you all another time for your bullshit,” I said, catching each of my brothers’ eyes. Even though we were all Alphas, this was still my Pack, and they each respected that fact. Until they had their own and claimed that right, they were still under me and my protection. Acknowledging that fact made me realize why my brothers needed their own soon enough. Their individual gifts are getting stronger each day, making their Alpha attitudes stronger and more willing to challenge for authority. It was just in our nature to do so, and I had to let them lead their lives one of these days. I was the oldest of them all, and I knew I had to let go, but hell, I have been more of a father than anything.
“I have a plan for each of you, so chill on that note. I hear what all of you are saying, and I got you, but honestly, I am here to speak with Dax on some serious shit,” Quinn said, looking at each of us. His entire demeanor changed, and we all could tell this would be interesting.
“Let’s talk inside, Alpha,” I said, feeling my wolf come to attention. My wolf has been on edge and ready for something. I had a feeling I was about to find out why. He was also clawing inside, trying to tell me something, but I ignored it to focus on healing my Pack members. I looked back to my brothers, knowing they would try to listen to what we needed to discuss. “Two of you take out the pups for training, and the rest go do something fucking productive.” They all gave me the finger but did not hesitate to do what I asked.
“If all of you are as good as Hayley, then we should be able to help our wolf nation prosper,” he said as we made our way into my office. I closed the massive doors, and we both took seats in the armchairs in front of the large floor-to-ceiling windows.
“Agreed. We all have been too separate for far too long,” I said, leveling my violet eyes onto his near-black ones. I could see the slight red ring that told of his True Alpha status and feel the power of his wolf calming my own.
“Before we make that happen, I will need to meet all the Alphas across this land,” Quinn stated, looking out of the window.
“I will help with that in any way,” He turned back to face me with fierce eyes.
“I need you for something else. You are the Alpha of this state and have been for quite a long time. I want you here, and I know you will continue to make the vision I have for us all come true. It just may come to you having more than just Maryland, but we will get to that soon enough.”
“Damn right, I will. I got you, Quinn, just like I know you have my back as well,” I nodded.
“There is a problem, Dax, and I need someone I can trust to handle it. I need someone strong who can work with others who differ from us. We need to figure out what’s happening and fix that shit.”
“Okay, I am listening,” I said, feeling uneasy yet excited.
“There are many who do not believe I am what I am. Therefore, I am going to make it my business to meet all the Packs, to meet all the legit Packs, I should say.” I sat back at his words because I had a feeling I would not like what he was going to say.
“Go on,” I sighed.
“You know there are rogue wolves out there. Some are just looking for a Pack to belong to, and others are just loners who wouldn’t bother anyone.”
“Yes, I know a few wolves of that nature. Is that a problem for you or something?” I asked. I hoped it wasn’t because one of my brothers was just that type of wolf.
“No. That isn’t the problem, Dax. Another wolf is claiming to be the True Alpha, and he is raising an army of his own. He has some wolves believing his bullshit, and he is running on this purity nonsense!” Quinn growled, jumping to his feet. I leaned away, watching him begin to pace. His eyes were a flat black, and his canines lengthened. I could feel his anger, and I felt my own rising at this abomination.
“Purity? What the fuck does that mean?” I asked, standing as well. I looked out of the window to see a vehicle had stopped at my gates, and I saw my brothers moving over to check it out.
“Only born wolves are true wolves. A wolf that is mixed or not wholly a wolf should be killed. Not only is he spitting that bullshit, but something is helping him do it. Something is giving him the power to take out other powerful Alphas and claim their Packs as his own.” I was fucking pissed. When had this all started, and how the fuck did we not know about this shit until now?
“How did you find out? I take it he was killing all who wouldn’t submit to him?” I asked, turning from the window.
“This has happened before in New York, but this is on another scale of fucking crazy. The person who told me will help with this situation, so I invited her here. They saw it happen, but it was too late to stop it. They can’t track this wolf or his growing Pack, but they did sense that there was something of a demonic nature. That is their specialty. I need the two of you to work together on this because I know you can track this motherfucker down, and they can handle the demon aspect of the situation.”
“You want me to work with a fucking Hunter?” I asked. The only Hunter I liked was Taria Cross, my sister’s best friend. Her pops is cool, but the rest of those bastards are assholes. So why do they give two fucks now? What is happening to us?”
“What I want is for you to work with our allies! I expect you to handle this situation while pulling our brothers and sisters together before they kill them. If this fake ass Alpha isn’t shut down and the human world gets a hold of the knowledge that rogue wolves are running wild and killing shit up, they are coming at all of us full force. I will not let that shit go down. Do you understand where I am coming from?” He growled. I knew his anger was not directed my way, but I looked down anyway. I didn’t want his wolf thinking I was challenging him.
“Yeah. I get it, Quinn, but when does a Hunter give a shit about what happens to us, or is it just the demon they want, and we are a means to an end?” I saw him pull himself together as he moved to sit back down.
“All Hunters are not the same,” he stated simply. I had my doubts about that. However, I was older than he was and had more experience. I would need to see it to believe it.
“That remains to be seen,” I growled. I felt the wards being lifted to let the car pass through.
“This is what I need, Dax, but it remains your choice. I will not force my Alphas to do anything.” His words soothed the beast inside. Knowing I had a choice in the matter of taking on this mess helped calm me. I did not have an excellent track record with Hunters, not after Cassandra. When I needed help the most, I went to her, and as a Hunter, she should have helped. She should have moved mountains as a friend, but instead, she never answered my call. I never saw or heard from Cassandra, and to me, it showed how much Hunters didn’t give a shit about us. I called on other Hunter houses, and no one came, so when the zombies attacked, no one was there to help fight, and so many wolves’ lives were lost.
“Thank you for the choice, Quinn,” I said as a car came to a stop.
“Well, let’s go outside. I will need to know your answer before I leave.” We both
stood and made our way to the doors.

DEVANA
I pulled to a stop in front of a large home with five tall, sexy as hell men following me. I knew they were all wolf shifters, but I could also sense there were other shifters on this property as well. They must take in others. I hit the button to cut the engine. The brothers weren’t hostile towards me, but they weren’t friendly either. I could tell they had no trust in others and probably not Hunters. This mission was also a part of fixing the trust issues with the other species in this world. When I had the vision, I knew I had to help in any way necessary to at least make up for my parent’s ignorance. I opened the door and stepped out just as the doors to the house opened, and Quinn walked out.
“Devana, thank you for coming and for the call,” he said while closing the distance. I could feel his eminent power, and it just seemed to keep growing. I was a seer, but only in the way of demon-related attacks and things that have to do with Hunters. So, when that massacre happened to all those shifters, and I saw the madness in the wolf’s eyes, I knew I had to act. The vision was saturated with the stench of a demon, and I could feel the evil surrounding the smoky gray wolf.
